Short Story: Een Huis Part 1

I saw the stratus clouds towering over my head, indicating the my next attempt to put down my guitar and prepared to get myself away from the possibility of getting wet. Many pedestrians started doing the same thing as me as they ran away from the streets, going inside the skyscrapers or nearby cafe. I started to collect the coins from the guitar case and putting it into my Barbie pocket which I retrieved from the trash can under the bridge. Although, it looks crappy, but I didn't care. As long as I still can use it and put some stuff inside of it, I'm fine in using anything.

As the rain started to drop, I quickened myself and ran from the sideways to a cafe, hiding under the pavement. My eyes couldn't stop scrutinising through the window, looking at the pedestrians getting themselves warmed with a hot cup of coffee and chocolate. I gulped, wanting to take a sip, but restrained myself because I knew it too well that I have no money to purchase any of that luxuries. I felt so tempted especially when the door was opened and people came and went out from the cafe. My stomach growled and I knew right away that I need to get away from there, in order to save myself from getting much more hungrier.

The place I went to was so much different than what I always see the pedestrians went to. They walked into the skyscrapers, while I was only standing between small alleys where two-storey houses stood. Instead of using strong foundations, the buildings where I stood were built by old red bricks with molds on it. I was soaked in rain because I didn't bring any raincoat and I forgot that this place have no pavements. I kept on walking drenched until I found an ordinary looking house, though the bricks was colored in brown instead of red. I sat under the pavement, hoping the people inside the house would not came out and asked her to get away from there. I just need a little bit of warmth for a while--

"What are you doing in here?"

I heard the sound of a man and the door opened. My heart beating fast and I quickly stood and took my guitar case, knew what my fate would be. Until, I was stopped when I felt the man's hand was holding mine's.

"Why don't you went inside? It's very cold in here."

I turned my head and I was able to take a good look of the man. He was very handsome, just like the guy I usually saw on the billboards across the streets. He has a dark brown eyes and a very prominent jawbone. I took a while for me to realize how intense I have been staring at him. I averted my gaze and feeling a little bit shy I nodded my head.

I let the man's hand took me inside and I finally could felt my body warmed up. As at the same time, I felt mesmerized by what I just saw before me. Although, it wasn't that big and mostly the furnitures were covered with white cloth, but I could see the vintage vibes it emitted. The floor was made by woods and I could see many expensive antiques that I used to saw in my way in the city. In the middle of the room, there was a giant vase of flowers and it was weird because the vase consists of many different kind of flowers. While, there was also a counter and I saw that man was making a hot chocolate. It does not take long for him to finish making the hot chocolate and handing the warm mug to me. I could even see the fog coming out from the chocolate.

He was looking at me while I took a sip, making me a bit uncomfortable.

"Is it good?"

"It is."

When I answered that, I could see a smile beaming on his face. It was a sweet smile and I could feel myself lightened up after seeing that smile. He then went upstairs and took a dry towel and handed it to me.

"You need to dry yourself. You look cold."

"Thank you for the towel." I took the towel from him and suddenly he smiled again.

"You need to change your clothes. I have some clothes that will fit you perfectly." He said while he lead me to the second floor. The second floor was a corridor and there are three rooms. We went to the very end of the corridor and I waited for him to take the keys from his pocket and unlock the door.

I thought the room would be dirty and dusty, but it was perfectly clean. And again I was mesmerized by the room where it looks just like the room where I saw in the picture book around the trash can where usually the Princess lives in. I walked around the room and I couldn't hide my excitement when I saw all the beautiful furnitures and velvet duvet.

The man took out a beautiful beige silk frills dress from the wardrobe and handed it to me.

"Do you want me to wear this?" I look aghast when my hand touched the dress.

"Why? You don't like this?" He looks quite disappointed, making me feel guilty.

"Of course not! This dress is just beautiful! Because it's too beautiful that I feel like I'm not suited for this.."

I never expected that to happen. The hand of the man reach my head and stroked my head gently, giving me the caress that I have long forgotten since the day my father died.

"It suits you so much that I can't take my eyes off you."
